This is one of my proudest pieces so far. The client's grandfather and his brother served in a B-17G's ball turret and on an AF-2W, respectively. They wanted to depict both aircraft in the artwork together as a tribute piece.
To achieve the 'memorial' feel, I chose a dusk setting. At that time of day, the aircraft would be coated in hot, golden sunlight, which always makes everything look legendary and pretty. It also fits the message of the art since dusk comes in the final hours of the day. As usual, I picked an overall frontal view for the camera angle and a long focal length. I always like this combination as it can truly show the immense size of the airplanes and express their power.
Do note that the nose art on this B-17G is semi-historical: there seem to be no surviving pictures of it, only vague descriptions, so this is my interpretation of available information. Everything else should be historically accurate.
